Aardman honours comedy duo

As part of last weekend's hugely successful Slapstick Festival, comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer were honoured with comedy legend awards.

Presented by Aardman in recognition of the duo being "worthy heirs to the earliest silent film comedians", they were presented with personalised versions of the Morph and Chas characters for their 25-year contribution to visual comedy.

Previous recipients of the award include Michael Palin, Eric Sykes and The Goodies.

High-wire stunts

Last weekend also saw Bristol's status as the European Green Capital officially launched with a high-wire stunt 100ft above the city.

Jade Kindar-Martin of Cirque Bijou cycled on a tightrope with trapeze artist Karine Mauffrey hanging below between two warehouses near the Cumberland Basin.

The European Green Capital title previously belonged to Copenhagen in Denmark and rewards cities which improves the urban environment to create healthier, more sustainable living areas.

Uni searching for "associate dean of eureka moments"

Meanwhile, that towering, well-respected monolith to education, the University of Bristol, is looking for applicants for the new, ingeniously titled post of "associate dean of eureka moments".

The university said it came up with the alternative, quirky title to fire people's imaginations and attract extraordinary candidates. The word "eureka" comes from the Greek for "I have found (it)".

The successful applicant will head the university's School of Social and Clinical Medicine. The university has said the successful applicant won't actually hold the title but "may if they want to".

Bristol signs rugby star Gavin Henson

And on a sporty note, Bristol has signed Wales international rugby player Gavin Henson from local rivals Bath.

Henson, capped 32 times by his country, will move to the current Championship leaders at the end of the season for a one-year deal. Arriving at Bath from London Welsh in 2013, he has made 15 starts and 19 appearances from the bench, but hasn't played for the Premiership club since November after an injury.

Director of rugby Andy Robinson said Henson will "provide us with the nous and versatility in our young and exciting backline."
