Shopping in Bristol at Clifton Arcade

Posted on: 30 May 2015

Clifton Arcade is a gorgeous shopping arcade in Clifton Village, Bristol. Originally built during the Victorian era, it has been recently restored and offers a home to a wide variety of shops, as well as a café.

Even on a gloomy day, the arcade is a very pleasant place to be. It is flooded with light, and the ornate Italianate touches mean that there’s always something to marvel at. Since I moved to Bristol, I have probably visited the arcade hundreds of times and I never tire of spending time there. The shops are varied and quirky; you’ll find things that aren’t anywhere else in Bristol.

Whether you are looking for home decoration inspiration, beautiful gifts for yourself or someone else, or just a browse in a beautiful setting, Clifton Arcade is an ideal location. Here's a brief look at what is on offer, however we recommend you pay this gem of a shopping area a visit soon!

At The Marmalade House, you’ll find everything you need to upcycle and reinvigorate furniture. They stock Annie Sloan paint, which has somewhat of a cult following at the moment, and fabrics and soft furnishings. I always feel inspired by this shop and leave feeling full of ideas!

Pomegranate Clothing stocks floaty clothes ideal for layering. There’s lots of silk and linen clothing from the UK and Europe, and also a variety of leather handbags, and accessories. The variety of textures and fabrics means that you can create a really unique look by shopping here.

Objets De Désir has a great variety of stylish and modern gifts and jewellery from all over the world. There’s also a fantastic selection of greeting cards.

Monty’s is a furniture shop with a fab selection of mirrors and storage items. I love the natural wood finishes, and the crates with text.

Hermione Harbutt creates ethereal tiaras and headpieces using gemstones, pearls and crystals. The shop is gorgeous in its simplicity, allowing Hermione’s work to be the star of the show. It’s definitely very easy to lose a long time marvelling at the incredible craftsmanship at this beautiful shop, which has a real gallery feel.

Zip Pin Alterations is an ideal addition to the arcade, which has two vintage clothing shops; how better to make the best of those vintage purchases than with some alterations to perfect the fit?

Yellow Duck is a contemporary bathroom showroom, with a variety of sleek, modern finishes.

Abode Furnishings is another interiors shop which stocks a wide variety of upcycled items. Their stock changes frequently, so there’s always something new to covet!

One of the most unusual shops in the arcade is Otomi which stocks a variety of Mexican goods, and has everything from fresh corn tortillas to Day of the Dead wall tiles. Otomi is a fascinating and colourful shop which is brilliant for unusual gifts, as well as authentic ingredients.

Dustbowl Vintage is one of the aforementioned vintage shops. Dustbowl sells menswear and shoes.

Next door to Dustbowl Vintage is a primarily women’s wear vintage shop called Jemima Rose. You’ll be able to find beautiful vintage dresses and separates, as well as bags and children’s clothes.

Lovers of shiny things are very well served in Clifton Arcade with three complimentary and distinct antiques, jeweller and accessory shops all situated next to each other; Jan Morrison, Clifton Village Antiques and Bees and Graves. Between the three, all your sparkly desires can be catered to!

Right at the entrance to the arcade is another gift shop called Village which has a great selection of gift and homewards, and a huge selection of greeting cards. They also stock pick ‘n’ mix fairy lights where you can make your own combination of coloured spherical shades.

After the delights of shopping make sure and pop in to The Primrose Cafe at the entrance of Clifton Arcade to fill yoursleves up with their extensive menu of hot and cold dishes and wonderful cakes!
