Bristol Sports Day - Saturday 1 August 2015

Posted on: 30 Jul 2015

College Green in Bristol’s city centre will play host to the first Community Sports Day, this Saturday 1 August. At 11am The Lord Mayor of Bristol, along with Bristol Flyers captain Greg Streete, will kick festivities off with an Olympic torch relay.

Streete will carry an original 2004 Olympic torch around the transformed College Green, collecting representatives from all the sports organisations that have made the day possible, finally handing the torch over to the Lord Mayor of Bristol, who will declare the Sports Day officially open.

This great day will see thousands compete in a wide range of sports, fifteen in all, such as football, lacrosse, street dance and even belly dancing. There will certainly be an activity for everyone. Brought to you by Park Street Events in partnership with Nuffield Health and is FREE for everyone. The aim is to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and showcase the sporting opportunities within Bristol.

As well as all the sports and activities on offer there will be plenty of food on drink on offer from local Bristol businesses along with some of Park Street’s traders. The Marriot Royal will even be creating a pop-up restaurant for the occasion.

Some of the other guests lending their support to this great day include Dino Zamparelli, racing car driver currently racing in the Porsche Carerra Cup GB and former winner of the Ginetta Junior Championship; and Ben Breeze, former professional rugby player and CEO of Bristol Rugby Community Foundation.

This certainly promises to be a great day out for people of all ages. The aim is to bring people closer together and celebrate our rich sporting tradition whilst also having fun…culminating with the grand finale, watching the businesses of Bristol battle it out in a tug of war competition! Who will be the toughest business in the city?!
