Whether you want to quit smoking, a way to deal with other addictions and problems, or just a helping hand to deal with particular issues, Duncan Leckie can offer solutions! His experience and excellent record are proof of this. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. By focusing on what the client wants to achieve (the solution) rather than at the problem we are able to deal with the present and future instead of the past.

We have heard some great success stories thanks to Duncan and so we decided to speak to him and find out a little more about him and how he's able to help the people of Bristol...

When did you set up Duncan Leckie Clinical Hypnotherapist?

I originally trained in nursing and have had a very varied career, but by 2012 was in need of a change. I trained as a hypnotherapist and set up my business in 2014.

Are you from Bristol?

I’m from the North-West of England and have lived in Manchester, Sydney and London. I made a conscious decision to move to Bristol in 2012 to improve my quality of life. I love living in Bristol and haven’t regretted my decision for a moment.

Are there any particular sectors of Hypnotherapy you specialise in?

After twenty years working as a Nurse, nothing embarrasses or surprises me and complete confidentiality is second nature. I like to think that clients can come to me with issues that they might hesitate to discuss with someone who is not a health professional. I never judge anyone and only focus on the best solution rather than dwell on problems.

You have recently moved into The Alma Vale Centre, how’s that going?

It’s lovely! I have a relaxed room that is quiet and comfortable with a friendly coffee shop across the road.

Some people might not be too familiar with Hypnotherapy – we understand you offer an initial free consultation? What’s the best way for people to get in touch initially?

Contact me by telephone on 0117 9291596 (mobile is 07879 353 886) or email contact@duncanleckie.co.uk so we can discuss whether hypnotherapy is right for you and we can book an initial consultation. I offer the free initial consultation so that any potential client can meet me and decide whether I’m the right therapist for them. It’s important that they feel comfortable and can be open and honest with me for the therapy to be effective.

How do you find running an independent business in Bristol?

It has taken a while to get to grips with advertising, finding new clients and the day to day niggles of running a business. Bristolians are incredibly supportive of small independent businesses. It’s so much more fulfilling than being an employee.

Where do you like to eat out in Bristol?

My current favourite treat is lunch at Pieminister in St Nicholas Market. Nothing beats pie and mash on a cold, dark winter’s day.

What's your favourite place in Bristol?

I often find excuses to use the Cross-harbour ferry. I love to see that part of Bristol from water level.

Where do you see Duncan Leckie Clinical Hypnotherapist in 5 years time?

I expect hypnotherapy to be accepted and used more and more as an non invasive psychological intervention as it is starting to be seen with NICE for the care of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This could mean GPs referring patients for hypnotherapy and would mean major changes to my business. I believe there are exciting times ahead.

What advice would you give to any aspiring Bristol small business owners?

Bristol is a great place to give something a try and people back you up here. There’s lots of support.

If you were Mayor of Bristol for a day which one thing would you change?

I would revive the Ashton Court Festival though I must confess that I never experienced it.  Unfortunately I moved to Bristol too late to ever go, but people tell me it was one of the highlights of living in Bristol. A free music festival just seems to capture the spirit of Bristol.
