Beloved Bristol illustrator to celebrate 10 years of music t-shirt designing

Posted on: 18 Apr 2024

Silly billy Bristol illustrator Turbo Island will be celebrating ten years of “colourful and cocky t-shirts for the music geeks and cartoon freaks” with an exhibition and club night.

This Friday 19 April, fans of Turby’s work will be able to head to KIT FORM (a new space under Jamaica Street Studios) for the opening party of a brand-new Turbo Island exhibition before heading to Strange Brew for a special birthday club night at Strange Brew.

Browse Turbo Island’s wonderful work here or, alternatively, head to Headfirst to secure club night tickets.

Turbo Island is the brainchild of Bristol illustrator Christopher Wright, who has been on a relentless quest to expose the deepest and daftest corners of the world of music through the veil of the humble cotton t-shirt – it’s about time he showed you everything in his ginormous wardrobe.

In the bulging belly of Stokes Croft, this new exhibition will provide a rare chance to study the absurd concoction of nostalgic nonsense and playful parody that have adorned the torsos of music nerds all over the world for the last decade.

The exhibition opening party at KIT FORM will run between 6 PM and 10 PM tomorrow (Friday 19 April) with Arbor Ales, Top Cuvée and Buzz Sweets on refreshment duties – entry is FREE! After the party, the exhibition will run on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 PM to 6 PM until Friday 17 May.

Then, from 10.30 PM until 3 AM, it will be time to head to Strange Brew for ‘Turbotalk!’. Two flag bearers for the arty party underworld – Dirtytalk and Turbo Island – will be getting intimate onstage. A crew of Charlie Satsumas, Nadoone and Dan Chandler will be providing the tunes and Turby might jump on too – if he’s allowed up late!

The Turbo Island music tee exhibition is FREE while tickets for the ‘Turbotalk!’ afterparty are priced at £8 in advance – secure your tickets HERE.
